SMMIS is a vibrant, creative and dynamic Jewish school, based on Jewish moral and ethical values. With engaging Formal and Informal Jewish learning opportunities throughout our Pre-School, Primary School and Secondary School, SMMIS has been a cornerstone of the Singapore Jewish Community for many years.
Our highly trained and dynamic faculty teach not only the uniqueness of Judaism, but also the universal lessons that Judaism brings to the world. Our commitment to our Jewish values is felt throughout the school and permeates every classroom. We emphasise the importance of Healing the World, Tikun Olam, and ‘love your neighbour as yourself’. We encourage our students to put into practice the values they are exposed to through the concept of making the world a better place for all.
We are a Jewish school, based on Jewish ethical values, that welcomes students from all Jewish denominations as well as students of other faiths. All of our students learn about Judaism, its’ rich and vibrant culture. We celebrate the annual cycle of the Jewish festivals as one community, these celebrations are anticipated with excitement and enjoyed as some of the highlights of the school year. We are committed to building this unique and special community together with the students, parents and staff of SMMIS.
In our Primary School we have created two outstanding Jewish Education curricula which makes Judaism accessible to all of our students. Students can choose to attend our ‘Jewish Education Intensive’ track, taught in both Hebrew and English, or our ‘Jewish Education Culture’ track which is taught in English.
Our Intensive track follows the internationally acclaimed iTaLAM programme and covers Jewish Festivals, Torah Studies, Parasha and Middot (Jewish Values). Our students who choose this track leave SMMIS having received a deep and broad Jewish Education with a deep connection to their Jewish identity, Jewish roots and strong Hebrew language skills.
For students who join us from a range of backgrounds, ethnicities and faiths, and attend the Culture track, they will gain a better understanding of the Jewish People, Festivals and Life Cycle, as well as the ethical cultural values that we stand for. They will explore ways of integrating ideas of social justice, kindness, and mindfulness into their lives.
In Secondary School all students follow a unique curriculum, which covers: Jewish History; Zionism, Jewish Values and Holocaust Studies. Hebrew language, is taught as a Modern Foreign Language, employing optimal methods of learning language through immersion.
All students across the school are offered additional Jewish enrichment opportunities through our regular lunchtime clubs or 1:1 lessons with our highly experienced teachers. Our students are also afforded opportunities to participate in annual collaborations with international Jewish institutions including World ORT, the Yad Vashem, the Technion and Tel Aviv University.
Jewish life is the heartbeat of SMMIS and throughout the year we celebrate all Jewish festivals and life cycle events as one community. We offer an exciting array of informal Jewish activities and our many festival celebrations are the highlight of our school year: the Chanuka party, Sukkot, Purim, Pesach Seder, Matza Bakery, Yom Hazikaron, Yom Ha’atzmaut, Shavuot and Jewish Book Week.
Our strong Jewish values permeate the school and we encourage all of our students to put into practice the values they are exposed to through the concept of לתקן עולם,(l’taken olam), making the world a better place for all. We have a strong tradition of Social Action with fundraising and volunteering as the practical manifestation of the core Jewish values of Tzedaka and Tikkun Olam. Students are offered a variety of options to volunteer, raise funds and develop their leadership potential in doing so.
The Jewish life is the heartbeat of SMMIS and throughout the year we celebrate all Jewish festivals and life cycle events as one community.
